Lauren Beukes is continuing her quest to conquer the world with her genre-defying thrillers, Broken Monsters and The Shining Girls.
Over in Australia, Beukes was featured on Booktopia, “the voice of Australia’s Local Bookstore”, in an interview for Booktopia TV. She spoke to John Purcell (Booktopia’s Book Guru) about her work, the international attention (specifically Stephen King’s endorsement), the debate on genre fiction vs literature, and her views on the world in general.
Beukes tells Purcell: “I think of writing a book as you are building a house someone wants to live in for a while, and this seems to have been a haunted house!”

Earlier this week Beukes tweeted a link to the Hungarian translation of her award-winning thriller, The Shining Girls. If you happen to understand Hungarian, head on over to the publisher’s website and tell us what they have written about South Africa’s shining girl. We think the cover is absolutely wonderful:
Love love love the Hungarian edition of The Shining Girls. Out next week from @gabokonyv http://t.co/nJ5goDTkkK

Over in the US, Broken Monsters‘ American publisher, Mulholland Books (an imprint of Little, Brown and Company), has created a very, very creepy trailer for the book. Shot in the style of a short short film, this trailer leaves you wanting more.
Be warned – not to be watched alone or at night:
