The Sunday Times has started a monthly bestseller list, identifying the most popular books in South Africa.
After a dearth of local titles in the top five fiction list last month, it’s good to see two South African novels on the list this month; Deon Meyer’s Cobra takes top spot, and Lauren Beukes’ Broken Monsters sneaks in at number five. John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, meanwhile, slips from top spot to number two.
The non-fiction list is again dominated by local books, however, with Zelda la Grange’s Good Morning, Mr Mandela keeping top spot, followed by The Real Meal Revolution, which recently won the Nielsen Booksellers Choice Award.
Behind Palace Walls: Life in the Service of a Saudi Princess, by Cay Garcia, moves up two places, from fifth to third, while Mzilikazi Wa Afrika’s tell-all memoir Nothing Left to Steal enters the top five in fourth.
The information for the list comes from SAPnet/Nielsen, bookseller data and publisher data.
