Verdict: carrot
The novel is an object lesson in how to deal with a complicated literary format, involving so many different voices. Lotz pulls it off very cleverly, ratcheting up the tension, allowing little bits of vital and shattering information to slip obliquely into the mix as the reader is pulled along, wondering what on Earth (or off it) is going to come next.
