Verdict: carrot
The structure of The Three is truly brilliant; a book within a book made up of a series of interviews, letters, voice recordings, online messaging conversations and extracts from websites. At first I found this structure a little confusing as it jumped between one family and the next. I found it hard to keep track of who was who and related to which crash, but I soon got my bearings. This style of writing definitely gives the narrative an edge; the parts of the novel that I found most chilling were the parts that were written as voice recordings: “‘The boy watch the boy watch the dead people oh Lordy there’s so many …”
