Alert! Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah has been longlisted for the 2014 Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction, formerly known as the Women’s Prize for Fiction and before that as the Orange Prize for Fiction. Adichie won the prize in 2007 for Half of a Yellow Sun.
The five judges, Mary Beard, Denise Mina, Caitlin Moran and Sophie Raworth with Helen Fraser chairing, have chosen a longlist of 20 books from the 158 that were submitted. They will be narrowing this down to a shortlist of six and announcing the winner on 4 June 2014.
Other titles on the longlist include The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton (which won the Man Booker Prize last year), The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt (which joined Americanah on the list of finalists for the National Book Critics Circle) and The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri (shortlisted for the 2013 Man Booker Prize and finalist in the 2013 National Book Awards).
